About the History of the venue

Back in 1881, the building used to be a copper musical instruments factory. In 1936-37 it became an important center of trade unionism when the 'Fraternal Union of the Metallurgy of the General Confederation of Labor (CGT) inaugurated its "Maison des Métallurgistes".
The House became the seat of strong political actions, such as the organization of aid to republican Spain (reception of the volunteers of the International Brigades), activities related to the Resistance, fight against the wars of Algeria and Vietnam and a commitment against fascism in all its forms. 
In 1997, faced with the danger of seeing the metalworkers' house sold to private promoters, associations and inhabitants of the neighborhood struggled for the buildings to be bought by the City of Paris
In November 2007, the Maison des Métallos became a Cultural Institution of the City of Paris. It is equipped with an auditorium adapted to all forms of contemporary creation, a light room under glass, a dozen work rooms, audio and video studios, offices and a bar, the Café des Métallos. Four areas of work are defined: live performances; public debates; associative events and "digital work".
